Border crossings

Border crossing is an international design collaboration between Dundee, Texas and Ljubljana and Supported by the IMprints Research. We started off by looking into our own cultural identity in relation to the textiles industry. For me this was my great grandparent’s, who worked in a mill in Paisley which produced fabrics with Paisley pattern. Using the looms used in these mills as the basis for my project I did some source drawing of looms both in the art college and on location at the verdant works. The verdant works is a museum in Dundee, which used to be a jute mill. They still have a whole production line of working machines. I also did some research into the different kinds of fabric which were traditionally made in Scotland, tartan, tweed and paisley, from these I created my colour scheme.
